Tips & Strategies for City Connection

Frankly, I hate this game and don't understand why you would want to play it, at least after you beat all six levels because the game just repeats itself without ending. However, if you would like to master this arcade relic of the 80's read below.

In City Connection you play a car driver who has just robbed a paint store. You decide to throw the police off your trail, you will paint all of the city (six in all) roads white. {Yes, the game designers were smoking something when they thought of this}

You, the player, control the getaway car. To paint the roads, all you need do is drive over them. The level is finished when every block of the roads is painted. You can move the direction of the car with the left and right arrow keys. It is possible (although NOT recommended) to speed up the car by pressing the directional keys many times. You can make your car jump by pressing the A button. To make your car jump to higher levels of roads, it is necessary to hold the DOWN directional key down as you jump.

Tips:

The Road has 3 tiers. Paint over the tiers from top to bottom.

Be more concerned about painting and staying alive than getting oil cans and points.

Running into cats, spikes, or other cars will kill you if you collide with them.

Cats and spikes cannot be destroyed. These will appear if you hang out on a tier for too long. Too avoid cats, drive further along the screen and then backtrack. If you go far enough the cat will be gone when you return. This doesn't not always work and sometimes two cats will box you in an area. It is tricky but you can jump over cats.

Be sure when jumping to different roads to look out for cats on the other side. same for police cars.

Watch out, especially in later levels, for fast driving police cars and appear out of nowhere will the intention to collide with you.

Grab oil cans and fire them at cars with the B button. If the oil can hits, the car will spin out of control and you can hit it to clear it out of your way. This is especially effective when jumping to new roads, if you can shoot the car in midair.

Learn how to turn your car around a the last second to paint the ends of roads.

In later levels you cannot cleanly jump between roads and tiers; it requires a bit of worming around to get back to upper levels.

As you are falling down in the air, press the directional keys to change where your car will go when it lands... You can also "glide" using this technique to compensate if a jump goes wrong or you need to get to a hard-to-reach-level.

Don't jump on a tier with a cat on it.

Don't jump to switch tiers if a car is slightly ahead or behind you on opposite tiers. It will be likely to fall down and collide with you, or you are likely to jump up a hit it.

If you collect three balloons, you will warp to a later level.
