Favorite NES Soundtrack
Sure, the NES may have had vastly inferior sound capabilities from most systems, but the developers utilized every possible trick they could to make some of the best videogame music ever heard. Nowadays it seems the large majority of games have soundtracks that are meant to only drift along in the background, ambiently. Back in the day, however, game music rocked, and it rocked hard. Who could forget the opening intro music for Mega Man 3? The thundering drum lines when you start up a game of Blaster Master? Bloody Tears, Vampire Killer, or ANYTHING from a Castlevania game? Well now you can voice your opinion on which game you think has the greatest soundtrack overall. I've nominated 5 top fan favorites, and if you've never played a game, no problem, Sqwirl has graciously made a couple small MP3 files for each game, to give you a sample.Note from Sqwirl - I couldnt find roms for blaster master or journey to silius with good enough sound so there is no mp3 files for those two games. Sorry.
Game #1: Mega Man 2 by Capcom Mega Man is a series that has always had great music, but many fans feel this is the coupe de' gras as far as sound is concerned. The game features great techno-sounding tracks for each stage, and an awesome opening intro song.
Intro Music Game #2: Mega Man 3 by Capcom The Mega Man masses are pretty evenly divided between either part 2 or part 3 as the best. The opening intro track is stunning, and there's even some blues-inspired tracks in there thanks to Proto Man and his whistle.
Intro Music Game #3: Blaster Master by Sunsoft Great game, great soundtrack. Each and every track is high quality, and the themes range from moody and foreboding to upbeat and motivating. The composer at Sunsoft in the late-eighties to early-nineties could seemingly do no wrong.
Intro Music First Stage
Game #4: Journey to Silius by Sunsoft See the last sentence in the Blaster Master column. While Journey to Silius isn't a classic like the other games nominated, many who own the game claim that it flat out has the greatest NES soundtrack of all time. I can't exactly disagree
Intro Music Stage 2
Game #5: Castlevania 2 by Konami Capcom and Sunsoft may have had a few knockouts, but I think pound for pound Konami is the king of NES music. I doubt many would disagree that Castlevania 2 is thier music trump card. Bloody Tears is my favorite videogame track ever, hands down.
Daytime Music (Bloody Tears) Game #6: Your Choice Who said the winner had to be on this list? You can vote for any NES game you want to.
