Once in awhile a great game comes along, but is often overlooked. Sweet Home is one of those games. Sweet Home was released in 1989 in Japan by Capcom, and was scheduled to be released in the US but due to its graphic nature it was canceled. You may be asking to yourself how graphical can this game be? Well very, there's cut scenes of characters being chopped in two, or there is scenes where your body slides down a wall with blood streaks. Sweet Home starts out with a news team of five people who investigate the estate of Mamiya Ichirou for her Fresco’s that she painted. It turns out that the estate is haunted by the unresting soul of Mamiya Ichirou. It later is discovered that her child had accidentally fallen in to the furnace, causing her to go insane and commit suicide. The five adventures are Emi, Taro, Asuka, Kazuo, and my favorite Dr. Akiko. Each character has a special weapon that only they can use. Emi has a key, which can open up locked doors, Taro has a camera, which you can use to take pictures, Asuka has a vacuum, which can be used to suck up glass and other stuff that is in your way, Kazuo has a lighter, which can be used to burn rope or other obstacles blocking your path, and Dr. Akiko has a +kit, which can be used to heal people. Throughout there journey through the mansion there are notes left by other adventures, and important items that will aid you on your quest. Sweet Home uses many different game elements, it is like Final Fantasy + Maniac Mansion + Ghost and Goblins = Sweet Home. The game is mostly an RPG, for example, the over head view of the mansion, and the battle screen, but also throws in elements of Maniac mansion, with the many puzzles the game has. The Resident Evil series is said to be based off of Sweet Home, which is shown throughout both games. For example the door opening screen from Resident Evil is used in Sweet Home. Sweet Home was so popular in Japan, that a movie was released titled "Sweet Home" or "Suito Homu". Unfortunately the movie was only released in Japan so the chances of finding a copy in the US will be rather hard. Luckily I own a copy of this Movie, and am waiting for it in the mail. Expect a review of it as soon as I get it. Sweet Home is a great game and is a must play for anyone. I beat this game all in one sitting, and it took around 8 hours for me to beat it. I am sure I can cut that time down to 5 hours if I play again. Graphics: 10, Sound: 10, Control: 10, Challenge: 10, Fun: 10, Total: 10.
