Video Game Collecting - The Art of Regaining our Childhood Over the past couple of years collecting older video games has become an increasingly popular hobby. While some people don't understand and wonder why we just don't download the ROM, others can appreciate the sense of accomplishment finding that Mega Man 2 for only $3 at a flea market. The reasons for collecting older video games varies from person to person, but I personally enjoy it because it takes me back to my past. I still remember hanging around at Movie Stop all day just because I knew Super Mario Bros 3 was going to available to rent sometime that day. Now when I find a Super Mario Bros 3 at a flea market or pawn shop for chump change, the little kid in me that waited all day to rent it 10 years ago starts getting all jittery and says "Buy it you fool! Remember how long we had to wait to rent it!". These old games and systems are part of a lot of peoples childhood that now can be bought for a tenth of the price it was years ago. Ten years ago, when all the kids would rub it in everyone elses face about hey they just got the newest NES game, everyone would feel a little pang of jealousy (and start to be real buddy-buddy with the lucky kid so they could be the first to borrow it). I am now proud to say I am that kid with the most NES games on my block and now all my friends are the jealous ones! Ok, I dont really know that they're jealous because they've all gone to college now and have wifes and kids, but if they knew about my collection, then they'd be jealous and I'd be the coolest kid on the block!! So the next time your at the flea market and see that Castlevania or Double Dragon for $2, buy it and just think how jealous all your friends would be (10 years ago that is).
